General Information About the Wolvenwold Site and our Festivals

General Site Information... You may wish to print his out and refer to it from time to time if needed, to plan for your stay here on site.

Wolvenwold is a 166 acre site, where we offer rustic tent camping, with a few pleasant amenities added in. We provide a range of comfortable sites for e

veryone’s enjoyment.  If you seek solitude, social gatherings, spontaneous bardic circles, shade, sun, etc. We will be able to accommodate you... just ask us to point you in the right direction, and let us know if you are looking for a quiet space, or one where you will feel free to stay up drumming into the wee hours.  The “quieter” areas will be further to the South end of the campsite, back toward the direction of the main entrance road, (where you came in) and the opposite end of the campsite, and up on top of the hill in the woods, is where you will find the folks who tend to stay awake later, drum louder, and celebrate the season’s activities until the wee hours of dawn!  The main stage area, the medical area, and the registration areas will all be centrally located, more in the “middle” of these locations, and the vendors will be lined up along Camp Joe Road.  You will be provided with a map of the site upon arrival, and there may even be land tours scheduled throughout the event to familiarize our guests with all the land has to offer in the way of sightseeing!

Alcohol

RESPONSIBLE enjoyment of alcoholic beverages by OF AGE ADULTS is permitted.  If you become a nuisance and/or offensive you will be removed without refund.  Any underage drinking is STRICTLY prohibited.  Any minor caught drinking and/or attempting to drink will be removed from site immediately without refund.  Any adult providing any minor with alcohol will be removed immediately and banned from the site.

(Wild) Animal Info

There are skunks living here, so if you happen to see a little creature scuttling around and you aren’t sure what it is, it is probably best not to startle it!  There are also raccoons, bobcats, coyotes, red-tailed hawks, turkeys, turkey buzzards, turtles of all kinds, snakes, and tales have been told of mountain lions and bears, though they tend to be pretty shy around campsites and fires.  Prepare yourself to check your body nightly for ticks, they are all around the Ozarks.  This is wildlife, so try to get along with it, and it should do the same in return!

Appropriate Behavior

If there is any behavior at our event that makes you uncomfortable, please 1) remove yourself from the behavior, and 2) report it to a staff member right away.  If you see an adult inappropriately approaching a minor, please report this to staff immediately.

Bring your Small “Stash o’ Cash!”

We always have such a great group of vendors that you will not want to miss out on their treasures!  We will host a raffle as well, with various items donated by the vendors to help with ofsetting our festival costs.  We also usually have daily town runs by staff members, so don’t forget to start saving your change now for these things, to include ice, wood, magickal vendors wares, auctions, and a couple of bucks to donate to our ongoing “Buy A Bucket O’ Stones For Our Road” fund, and so on!  You’ll be so happy you did!

Clothing Optional

Our site is clothing optional, down at the campground, and around most of our land (except for up top, near the upper road).  Wolvenwold is quite a safe and sacred site dedicated to our ability to honor the divine within and without.  Most people feel perfectly relaxed in our atmosphere, even if they haven’t experienced it before... but if anyone at any time makes you uncomfortable, for any reason, please remove yourself from their presence, and contact a staff member right away.  We’ve never had any problems in the past, thankfully, as we tend to have a very respectful and polite group who attend here.  Clothing optional, however, does not mean that you are welcome to stare at or rudely ogle another person, make lude remarks, unwelcome advances, grab, touch, or otherwise take advantage of the liberated spirit and free nature of our site.  We take every precaution possible to ensure the safety and security of all of our guests, to make certain that all adults interact responsibly and appropriately around families and younger persons, and to make all who come here feel as comfortable and secure as we possibly can.  If something doesn’t look right to you, feel free to report it!  It is always better to be safe than sorry and we wish to maintain our family-friendly status here and make all feel welcome.  If you have never attended a clothing optional event before, be assured that it is completely safe, and that most that choose to go “skyclad” do so simply to feel the air on their skin, to be able to commune with nature, and to feel a more comfortable, and closer connection with spirit, and with themselves.

Please use MapQuest or another maps site for directions from other points.

Electricity

There is electric on site for musician’s equipment & only a couple spots for serious health related needs only. If your idea of camping necessitates electricity I suggest you look into propane & solar alternatives. You’d be surprised of the range there is available.  We just do not have it to offer to the general campers.

Filming

Recording audio and/or video of any of our performances and/or workshops is only acceptable if the musical performer, group, or special guest(s) presenting are asked specific permission ahead of time.  Please don’t violate artist’s privacy and recording rights.  Sometimes, performers will have their own personal crews, or they might not wish to be filmed at all.  In any case, special permission to film any performance or workshop is an agreement that must be made prior to event between the two parties in question.  Filming the entire group, or audience, surrounding a performance or workshop, special presentation or lecture, is prohibited, as there is no way to ensure each individuals privacy.  Filming of sacred circles and/or rituals is not permitted.  (Side note: We may have a professional vendor here who will be available to videotape your performance of desired.)  Thank you for understanding.

Fires

There are many cooks’ fires available throughout our different camps.  Some are small and intimate and others are larger and communal.  Please consider this as one of the reasons you choose your camp site upon arrival.  There will be firewood prepared for purchase for $5 per load as you register and throughout the festival. Cutting and removal of trees/ brush is strictly prohibited.  You are welcome to use propane and/or solar stoves as well. If you live inside the state of Missouri & wish to bring in your clean & healthy wood yourself you are welcome to do so.  Wood will be inspected upon arrival & unsuitable/unhealthy wood will be appropriated.  It is against Missouri Dept. of Conservation laws to bring in wood from out of state so please refrain from doing so. Again, there will be prepared firewood for purchase.

Firewood

Firewood for your campsite will be available for purchase through registration, for $5 five dollars per small load.  Bring a whelbarrow or borrow ours.  Please do not take wood from our sacred file piles; you will be reprimanded if we catch you doing so!  We cut and save just enough wood for our sacred fires each season, so we don’t run out.  So please, buy your own wood, or bring it yourself, see "fires" above.

Food:

Please plan to bning all of the food that you will need for your stay at Wolvenwold.  We usually have a food vendor or two, so check out the specific festivities pasges for vendor lists.  We may have a staff member doing daily town runs if you do not wish to make the daily drive yourself for restocking of items.  There will be staff cooking kitchen, but that will be for serving optional prepaid staff plans and various special guests, etc. and is not open to the public.

Grounding Center

Our grounding center is a quiet place to come to relax and get the stress away from you and out of your bones.  This grove is a safe, sacred and relaxing space, for those who need to simply ground and center, and get away from the chaos and any wild energies you might be feeling throughout the festival.  Energies can run high amid large groups of magickal folk, so there are times when we all might need to get away for a break.  Know that this will be a place where you can talk to someone who is there to listen and help, and that you will be safe and secure and have come to a place where you may rest alone for a time if need be.  If you need help, emotionally, spiritually, or perhaps mentally, you may come here to find solace, safety, and a welcoming presence.  We do not as of yet have a “name” for this grove as of yet, but we believe it will come to us soon.

House, Trailer and Building up Top

All buildings up top are STRICTLY off limits to festival guests during our events.  This is where our family lives and sleeps, and tends to take naps during the festival to rejuvenate.  They tend to be unpleasant if awaken, so this area is off limits, no exceptions, unless you are personally invited up there by one of the land stewards; Fran, Kittin, Bel, Johnny, or Holly.

Ice

Depending on the number of finances brought in ahead of time by pre-registrations, we will either have an ice machine on site, or will have folks doing various “town runs” where you will be able to order ice from registration.  Check in at the registration tent to ask for details on the next town run!

Illegal activities

Absolutely no drinking by underage participants or illegal drug use of any kind will be tolerated on this land.  There may even be locally “hired” law enforcement officers on premise at any given time to check up on the festival.  (They are friendly folks, so as long as you are obeying the rules, don't worry!)  We have no problem removing violators, and will do so with quickness, and further, those removed once will not be invited back to this land in the future.  No exceptions will be made.

Lost and Found

If you loose an item at Wolvenwold, be assured that if found by any of our staff members or land stewards, and most likely even if found by a member of our community, it will be sent directly to the “Lost and Found,” which can be checked at any time at Registration, during the festival.  If you FIND an item that does not belong to you, we ask that you please return it to registration, that its rightful owner may come to reclaim it.  There are no “ground prizes,” or “ground score” here.  We are honest folks who will even hold on to the found items at each festival for a short time afterward, depending on their size and our space available.  If you notice something missing, please contact us right away, as we do not normally hold on to these things for long.  We would like it if our community would join us in doing the same.  Every effort to return items to their rightful owners will be attempted.   If you have already left the event, and are pretty sure you’ve left something here, contact us to see if we’ve found it.  We cannot be responsible for your lost items, but we will be sure to do what we can to get them back to you, safe and sound.

Pets

Pets are no longer allowed at our festivals.  Attendees that bring pets to the event will be turned away without refund.  Special requests for special pets may be requested before the festival begins, but very few will be granted, and only in the very rare circumstance; Seeing Eye dogs, helper dogs, etc.  We may have a couple of domestic animals living on the land at the time of festivals, and they are friendly, but those will be the only ones allowed here.

Photography

We do not have a strict rules system put in place for taking photos at our events, and we hope to never have to implement one, so please keep in mind these things:  DO Bring your camera!  We are sure you will have plenty of wonderful things to photograph, and memories you will wish to preserve.  That said, however, please... ALWAYS ask before shooting a photo into a group or a circle of people.  Just say something polite, and respectful (and loudly enough) like “Does anyone here mind being photographed?”  You would be surprised how many people are okay with this... however, there ARE those who are still in the “broom closet,” or for whatever reason, do not wish to be photographed.  Please do respect their privacy.  All it takes is a bit of respect, and common sense, and you should end up with some wonderful photo memories for years to come.  Also see "filming."

Potties

Wolvenwold has Earth-Friendly compost potties, all over the land.  What this means is that without the awful smell of porta-potties, without the waste of hundreds of gallons of water, and without the cost all of this incurs, we utilize a simple humanure composting system that has been in use here at Wolvenwold for over ten years now.  Every potty on this land is a compost latrine, and it works well for us, though we have had to iron out details and learn and relearn how to properly compost over the years.  We highly recommend, for anyone who is interested, visiting: http://www.jenkinspublishing.com/compost_links.html and reading the “Humanure Handbook” by Joe Jenkins for more info on how and why we do what we do.  For now, all you really need to know is that our potty system is quite simple, and is a matter of covering everything with sawdust so that it will compost in our special bins once we empty the lavatory for you.  If the potties are full, let a staff member know, and we will replace the bin.  It is always a good idea to bring along a couple of extra rolls of tp, too, in case the potty is empty in the wee hours!

Shopping

The closest towns (we are literally 20 miles from all of these) are Houston, Mountain View, Willow Springs, Summersville, and Cabool.  Houston is the largest town nearby (20 Mi.) and has a super Wal-Mart, and Mountain View (also 20 Mi.) has a wonderful little health foods store called the Sunshine Market where you can get Earth-Friendly, biodegradable soaps, shampoos, lotions, and fresh produce, foods and cooking supplies.  (Bel's favorite!)  Also within range are Springfield (an hour and a half away) West Plains (40 minutes away) and Rolla (an hour away).  If you need driving directions to any of these places, ask at registration, and we’ll direct you.  We are at 18629 Rocky Top Rd., Elk Creek, MO 65464, if you would like to plot out your maps ahead of time.

 Showers

The Wolvenwold showerhouse is located up the hill on the main footpath, about a third of the way up toward the house and trailer on the land.  Please plan to bring all of your Earth-Friendly showering needs with you on your hike, and please also remember to bring them back down with you when you are finished.  (If you forgot to bring biodegradable shower supplies, let us know and we will point you in the direction of where they may be purchased on site!)  The showers are beautiful and face the trees out in the middle of the woods, with a wooden deck, and two showerheads for group showering.  If the warm water heater is not currently on, the sun tends to heat the water to an acceptable temperature for showering, especially in the sunny daytime hours.

Shuttle

A small shuttle tractor may be available to haul your things up to your campsite for a meager $2 per trip (to save driving wear and tear on the land) .Contact Holly now r7mama@yahoo.com to schedule a pickup when you arrive on the land, or ask for her when you arrive.  If she is not already busy, she will readily come to help you!

Site Map

Will be available upon arrival to the site, and watch this space in the future for our online site map, as well!

Sitting

Camp chairs are strongly suggested!  If you plan to attend workshops, (or even rituals, for the elderly or handicapped) it is a great idea to bring a blanket, a light, portable chair, or a cushy yoga mat to sit upon.  We will even possibly have some yoga mats available at registration for purchase, in case you forgot your own personal “tuffet!”  Of course, you can always make a pallet out of a couple fluffy blankets, and share!

Smoking

Cigarette Smokers, if you smoke around Wolvenwold there are many cans provided for butt disposal.  These are the only acceptable receptacles for your leavings besides your own garbage bags you intend to remove upon your departure.  Please do not throw cigarettes into fires or on the grounds.  This will not be taken lightly.  Please do not smoke on or near the stage, or at closed-in workshops, out of the consideration for non-smokers.  Some speakers and performers, and even our guests, are quite sensitive to cigarette smoke, so we thank you in advance for your kindness and consideration.

The Stage

The stage space is reserved for approved musicians and their equipment ONLY. This space is OFF limits to general festival attendees at all times. Please do not try to access this space or leave your belongings on/or around it.  Violators will be attended to and belongings will be appropriated.  If you believe you have musical energies that may be appreciated and enjoyed please contact Beltana venusbeltana2000@yahoo.com for consideration at a future time.  Our Stage Manager is Holly, r7mama@yahoo.com and she will actually be “living” on our stage throughout the summer months here at Wolvenwold, scheduling shows, maintaining a clear area for workshops/performers, managing roadies, security and stagehands, managing load-in/load-outs, etc. and overseeing stage improvements throughout the season, etc.  This area will be OFF LIMITS after hours at the events, and will be attended by Holly and her security staff overnight.  Don’t plan to use the stage as your personal sleeping area during the events, or take things out of or away from the stage (Including from the refrigerator on the stage!  This is for stage manager use ONLY.).  If you are a performing guest at our event, please contact Holly in advance to ask her any questions you may have about the stage, setup, teardown, requests, requirements, sound-checks, or related issues. Thank you for your cooperation.

Telephones

Cell phone reception is iffy at the site, at best, though some have been known to get reception up on top of the hill at the Sycamore tree.  We may have a telephone available for you to use if it is really important, up at the house, for use by permission only.  You must call collect or use a calling card.

Trash/Recycling

We ask you to please leave the land better than you have found it!  “Take only pictures, Leave only footprints!”  There are many things you can do to ensure this happens. Bring boxes, bins, or garbage bags to haul your trash out. If you brought it in, you need to to take it ALL back out with you.   If you bring in any glass items, please dispose & take away with you, with care. Responsibility brings greater enjoyment for all.

Vendors:

There is no additional fee for vending your wares!  We encourage vendors of all sorts!  We love our vendors and encourage you to bring your wares. We will even advertise for you for free on our site, and in our guide, until space prevents us from doing so anymore!  Please provide us with a link, (if you have one) the title of your shop, a few photos if you like, and descriptions of your merchandise, so that we may add you to our vendors section.  We do not charge extra for vending but ask you donate an item of your choice for our auction. We have these auctions to provide maintenance and improvements on the land for everyone’s welfare and enjoyment.  Same protocol as for workshops, all vendors/workshops must be submitted for approval from festivals facilitators before we will advertise for them. We can comfortably accommodate vendors/workshop sites of varying sizes so timely submission of proposals will ensure your satisfaction & success!  We like to group the vendors together so register early to get your good spot on shady Camp Joe Road!  Vendors and their personal campsites may be set up with as much space as you need, but will be offered on a first come, first serve basis.  You may arrive as early as one day before the official start date of the festival, if you wish to get a great spot.

Water

We have outdoor showers, tended compost potties, & fresh well water available at the showerhouse for wash water. You will need to bring your own wash tub and biodegradable soaps for any cooking supplies you need to wash.  We do not suggest drinking the site water, but bringing your own, to the tune of a gallon per person per day, and more if needed.  Camp showers are encouraged.  You may refill your water containers at the showerhouse.  Our well water is drinkable.
